One of the things I need to remember when putting together an art show: Drink More. Perhaps not all the time but just enough -especially near the deadline- to recall the mind fame of “Eh, fuck it.”
Thanks Dan, for the liquid perspective.

This guy is starting to take shape. We’ve still got a ways to go, though.

I’m finding out that Summer is family time. I’m just coming out of three or four weeks dominated by family commitments. For the most part it’s all good stuff. It means travel and receiving travelers. It means warm happy times and it means hard work. Especially since I tried to squeeze in getting some art stuff in there. Things got pretty hectic, but it looks like the family travel / visiting is going to calm down for a spell – so now I can pick up on the full time (as full time as I can manage) making of art.
I’m still trying to figure out how to be a full time mom and artist. So far the time dedicated to wrangling this boy is winning over the time I get to spend at the art desk. I’ve just got to figure it out somehow. A day-care situation would be ideal but it’s a damn Catch 22, that one: Need to make money to pay for a babysitter/day care but I can’t get free long enough to make art for said monies….
The couple of bits of work I did manage to do have done well (read: hanging in a gallery and collected a good word here in there- One even sold! Yar!) yet haven’t been posted because my scanner broke and it hasn’t been replaced. I haven’t yet figured out a decent set up to photograph it. (The shots I have taken look like crap so far) Soon this hiccup will be resolved and I will get back to posting art again. I forget sometimes that doing non-digital art has it’s cute little analog problems.

::Erica Friedman’s interview with Nakamura Ching::
I am so glad that I caught the link to this interview from Erica Friedman (@Yuricon on Twitter). If you are interested in making manga or comics – heck, if you are a creative soul give this is a read. Nakamura Ching is the creator of the manga Gunjo. Her honesty and kindness is only matched by her fascinating insight. It’s the kind of interview you come away with wanting to know the person, buying them a drink and hanging out with them.
::$10 Sketch/b&w portrait drive done::
Thanks to those who participated, KaMu has breakfuss burritos. If you missed my $10 sketch drive, fret not: there will be others. In the mean time you can still put in an art commission. Shoot me an email and we can sort out the details. [ahg.design.illustration - (via Gmail)]
::Fickly – short short stories::
Here is my answer to a Ficly challenge: Write about what you would do if you did not have to be good. NO limits No reastrictions.
One Last Detail
“So where’d ya get it?” He said as he lifted his chin a degree, pointing at the magazine I had placed on the table between us.
I shrugged and tried to sound cavalier. “I’m a thief.”
He smiled and sipped his coffee, allowing my lie. With a single finger he pinned the corner of the envelope that poked out from under the magazine. He slid it off the table and smoothly into the inside pocket of his jacket. “It’s all good.”
He took another sip and started to scoot his bulk out of the booth.
“Wait- ” Realizing my part was over I suddenly remembered something.
“Lady, we’re done here.”
“No. I want to ask something…uh. Additional.”
“The arrangements have already been made.” He was already standing.
“I’ll pay extra.”
He frowned but remained standing at the end of the table. I looked at his massive hands and licked my lips before continuing, “See. He- he’s got this great smile. Brilliant teeth.” Remembering those perfect teeth I met the dark scowl.
“I want those to go first. Before everything else.”

What’s next? Sequential Art, of course! 08/04/2009

I’ve decided that I want to be doing the sequential art thing again.
I have a collaboration for a sequential art project lined up. Until I’m putting pencil to paper I can’t really say much about it, except that if my art can match a portion of my partner’s verbal prowess this little project is going to be fun and might just kick serious ass in the bargain.
But I am also thinking about my pet project. Some of you remember my never-quite-off-the-ground-and-currently-in-stasis-comic CourierSix. I’ve been dusting it off and giving it a good look. I really do want to tell this story -or at least let these characters get the play time they deserve.
I am in communications right now with the person I would like to be my co-writer. Again, if it works out, oh man – It’s very exciting. My problem is that I’m not sure which route I am going to take. Lots of time has passed and though the story didn’t go anywhere (It’s still locked up tight in my head) I’m not sure I want to tell the same story. I am, however, pretty certain that the characters of KaMu, and the twins, Enjeru and Enzeru will be the focus, or at the very least be my transition into whatever is next. Perhaps me and my co-writer can sort this out – none the less. I’d like to hear from you.
I updated the CourierSix.com website with the archived C6 pages. So you can acquaint yourself or refresh your memory before telling me what you think
